Fiber Technician
Barry Electric Cooperative is seeking a skilled Fiber Technician to join our team. This full-time position offers an
exciting opportunity to work hands-on in the field, supporting our fiber-optic and phone networks. The Fiber
Technician will handle on-site installations, troubleshooting, broadband and telephone repair, equipment
maintenance, and record updating.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct indoor installations and ongoing maintenance.
• Build overhead fiber drops, including tasks such as anchoring, splicing, lashing, testing, and maintaining fiber
optic cables.
• Perform fiber splicing, troubleshoot with specialized tools, and manage fiber repairs efficiently.
• Organize and neatly dress large bundles of cable within IDF and MDF cabinets.
• Work with CAT cabling systems, ensuring all installations are consistent and of high quality.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
• Prioritize safety in all tasks and be comfortable working outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
• Have experience operating a bucket truck, fusion splicer, and other essential tools and equipment.
• Be physically capable of lifting and handling necessary materials and equipment.
• Possess strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions from supervisors effectively.
Additional Details
This position requires flexibility to work overtime as needed and includes participation in an on-call rotation.
