Fiber Network Technician
Barry Electric Cooperative is seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Fiber Network Technician to help maintain and support our fiber network and related systems. This role is critical to ensuring reliable network performance, assisting subscribers, and supporting internal technology needs across the Cooperative.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber, Ethernet, GPON, routing, and Wi‑Fi networks.
• Assist subscribers with internet and phone services.
• Maintain network documentation, logs, backups, and reporting.
• Support internal IT systems and provide technical assistance to staff.
• Configure and maintain network devices, firewalls, DHCP/DNS, and phone service assets.
• Ensure network integrity, security, and overall system health.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Technical training or experience in fiber optics, networking, or telecommunications preferred
• Strong troubleshooting skills and working knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, Linux, and network hardware
• Ability to communicate professionally with subscribers, staff, and vendors

Fiber Install Technician
Barry Electric Cooperative is seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Fiber Install Technician to help with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber‑based broadband and telephone services for residential and commercial members. This role includes fiber splicing and testing, cable management, responding to service calls, and ensuring safe, reliable service through effective communication and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform on-site installations of broadband and telephone services for residential and commercial members.
• Troubleshoot and repair service issues, including fiber optic, CAT, and COAX cabling.
• Conduct fiber splicing and testing using appropriate tools and equipment.
• Operate and maintain troubleshooting tools and test equipment.
• Neatly dress and secure large bundles of cable inside IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame) and MDF (Main Distribution Frame) cabinets.
• Maintain accurate service and installation records, updating documentation as required.
• Respond to service calls, including after-hours and on-call rotation as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, and Cooperative safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with members and internal teams to resolve service issues and provide updates.
• Assist with inventory management and equipment maintenance.
• Participate in training and professional development as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Valid driver’s license and insurability under Cooperative policy
• 2+ years of experience in broadband, fiber optic, or telecommunications installation and repair preferred
• Experience with fiber splicing, CAT/COAX systems, and cable management in IDF/MDF environments is preferred
